In October 2015, Olympus Australia hosted the inaugural “Olympus Cup” on Sydney Harbour. The three-race event involved two America's Cup 72-foot yachts and was staged to thank some of the wonderful OzHarvest volunteers who give their all for their local communities.

“While it is easy for Olympus to make cash donations to OzHarvest, it is much harder to quantify the time and effort given to the charity by our staff and other volunteers,” said Oliver Clarke, Communications Manager for Olympus Australia. “The Olympus Cup was a fun way to recognise the efforts of the people behind the scenes.”

OzHarvest is one of the charities supported by Olympus Australia and staff from its offices around Australia regularly volunteer each year at OzHarvest activities such as “Think.Eat.Save” and “CEO Cookout”. In addition to serving meals at these events, Olympus volunteers also help set up the serving tents and clean up at the end of the day.

Founder and CEO of OzHarvest, Ronni Kahn said "Our volunteers are incredible and told me that this was the best 'thank you' that we could have given them. Most of them would never have had an opportunity like this."

Each boat was captained by one of “The Gourmet Pommies,” better known as Steve Flood and Will Stewart, the winners of television's My Kitchen Rules 2015. Kahn added that Stewart has been an OzHarvest volunteer for many years and that both he and his company continue to support the charity.

“Sailing on Sydney Harbour is a bucket list item for many. Racing America's Cup yachts is the stuff dreams are made of!! Everyone seemed to be having the time of their lives out there and will have memories to cherish for a lifetime,” Stewart stated. “We particularly acknowledge the incredible support Olympus have given to OzHarvest. They would not function without such incredible company generosity.”

OzHarvest's aim is to highlight and raise public awareness of how much food is thrown away each year at all levels of food production, distribution and consumption. The Australian food charity uses donated and surplus food from retailers and restaurants and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to 600 charities providing meals and food parcels to vulnerable men, women and children across Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle and Perth.
